Months after announcing it would build a second CLT manufacturing plant in Montana, Columbia Falls-based SmartLam is searching for a site in Maine to build a new manufacturing facility, to meet rising demand for cross-laminated timber in the East.
SmartLam secured a $3 million grant from the non-profit Maine Technology Institute to assist with the $23.5 million construction cost. It is expected to finalize its site choice within the next month.
SmartLam currently produces more than 1 million bd. ft. of CLT per month.
