La Grande, Or., contractor Tyler Kennon is opening a new retail lumberyard with showroom in nearby Elgin, Or.
Kennon Lumber Co. soft-opens with a ribbon-cutting and prize drawing on April 5. An official grand opening party/BBQ will be held in early May.
In February, Kennon purchased the 4,000-sq. ft. building on 3.8 acres from Elgin High School. The lumberyard occupies half of the building, and Kennon hopes that—if it’s well received—he’ll be able to rent out the other half for a full-service hardware store.
His lumberyard currently just handles lumber, particularly cedar products such as fencing and log cabin siding. A display area shows off locally manufactured cedar picnic tables, raised planter boxes, trellises, and chicken coops.
