PWT, Burlington, Wa., creator of the world’s first manufacturer-treated laminated veneer lumber (LVL), announced that Treated LVL was recognized for design excellence by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies in the 2024 Chicago Athenaeum GOOD DESIGN Awards.
The awards honor products and industry leaders in design and manufacturing that have chartered new directions for innovation and pushed the envelope for competitive products in the world marketplace.
“We have always known that Treated LVL is an industry game-changer, and are thrilled to be recognized by the Good Design Awards team,” said Jim Enright, CEO of PWT. “There has always been a need for LVL that could be used in outdoor applications, and Treated LVL fills that gap in the market. This honor is a testament to our entire innovation team, and a credit to the high-performing success of the product. It’s representative of our commitment to innovation.”
PWT Treated LVL is made with layers of veneer bonded together under heat and pressure. It is uniquely designed to resist mildew, moisture, insects, warping, movement and shrinking thanks to its proprietary TRU-CORE Technology. The LVL is treated all the way through the center, beyond just the edges, granting the product its ability to maintain premium quality for perfectly flat, straight, long, deck joists and beams. It also comes with an industry-leading 25 year warranty. It is the first LVL product specifically manufactured for exterior use.
GOOD DESIGN was founded in Chicago in 1950 by Eero Saarinen and Charles and Ray Eames and remains the oldest and the world’s most recognized program for design excellence worldwide. This year, the Museum received a record number of submissions from the world’s leading manufacturers and industrial and graphic design firms representing the most important and critical mass of influential corporations in the design industry from over 55 countries, representing the best consumer design ranging from the ‘spoon to the city’ for sustainability, superior design, and unparalleled function. The award is the world’s most recognized public certification for consumer design excellence and is used by the world’s foremost corporations, manufacturers, and designers to identify their product’s design merit.
