West Fraser will indefinitely curtail its Lake Butler, Fl., sawmill by the end of September. The company attributed the closure to high fiber costs and weak commodity lumber prices.
The indefinite curtailment will affect roughly 130 employees and reduce West Fraser’s U.S. lumber capacity by approximately 110 million bd. ft. West Fraser expects to mitigate the impact on affected employees by providing work opportunities at other company operations.
The company said the pause of operations will better align the manufacturer’s overall lumber capacity with demand.
