Westervelt Co., Tuscaloosa, Al., plans to build a new lumber mill in south Alabama, to complement its existing mill in Moundville, Al.

Although the facility is still being planned, its exact location and design are expected to earn final approval from its board of directors shortly.

Westervelt describes its existing sawmill as “the second-largest southern yellow pine production facility in the United States,” and the proposed new location will have a production capacity of 250 million bd. ft. per year.

“The Westervelt Co. has a long history in lumber manufacturing and environmental stewardship,” said president and CEO Brian Luoma. “The expansion of our lumber business will continue to build on that legacy. Our customers are growing, and we are doing our part to grow our lumber business to support them.”
